 ABOUT AUSTRALIAN LABRADOODLE

Where Do Australian Labradoodles Come From?
The Australian Labradoodle breed dates back to the 1980's and was initiated by Wally Conron of Royal Guide Dogs, located in Victoria Australia. The intent was to create a breed that was allergy and asthma friendly with the temperament of a service dog.
The aim of the Australian Labradoodle was to produce a new purebred with its own breed standard and with predictable traits than a first-generation Labrador Poodle cross.

Australian Labradoodle vs Labradoodle
There are significant differences between the Labradoodle and Australian Labradoodle.
Labradoodles have one Labrador parent and one Poodle parent. Australian Labradoodles can be a blend of up to six different breeds: Labrador, Poodle, Cocker Spaniel, American Cocker Spaniel, Curly Coated Retriever ,Irish Spaniel Water Dog
Being only a few generations away from a Labrador, it is no surprise that the vast majority of Early Generation Labradoodles DO SHED their coats and are therefore NOT suitable for allergy sufferers, despite what you may have been led to believe from other sources! Australian Labradoodles on the other hand, are many more generations away from the shedding Labrador; their coats have been developed over the last 35 years such that they DO NOT SHED and therefore have a very high compatibility rate with allergy and asthma sufferers.

Appearance:
The Australian Labradoodle is available in three sizes, Standard (largest height 21-24 inches,

weight 20 - 30kg )
 Medium ( height 17 - 20 inches, weight 14 -19kg ) and Miniature (smallest height 14-16 inches,

weight 7-12 kg)
The appearance is the same for all three sizes. The Labradoodle is a compact dog that is athletic yet graceful and always appears to be happy. The coat should be non-shedding and as allergy-friendly as possible.

Coat Type:
Australian Labradoodles have three broad coat types, namely, wool, fleece and hair. Each looks and feels very different, so it is important to understand the differences between them.
They are known for being non-shedding and whilst most of them are due to their wool and fleece coats, the hair-coated dogs do shed to varying degrees, just like Early Generation.
Wool coat:
The wool coat is coarse in texture and very curly.

Curly fleece coat:
The curly fleece coat is soft in texture with loose curls..
Loose/Wavy fleece coat:
The loose or wavy fleece coat is very soft in texture with a slight wave to it.

Hair- coat:
The hair is quite coarse in texture and feels like typical dog hair.

Temperament:
Your adult Australian Labradoodle dog will be loyal, energetic, friendly and fun. Whilst there are some Early Generation Labradoodles with fantastic temperaments, they do tend toward the lively and potentially hyperactive side, particularly when compared to the calmer, better-balanced Australian Labradoodles. In fact, Australian Labradoodles are particularly intuitive, very intelligent, easily trained and are excellent with young children making them an ideal family member. However, they are still full of fun when playing outdoors and can be incredibly comical.
